Description

Foxton Locks is a Grade II listed canal landmark in Leicestershire and home to the longest and steepest staircase flight of locks in Britain. For over 200 years, these ten hand-carved locks have lifted narrowboats 75 feet up the hillside, playing a vital role in travel, trade and leisure. Today, it’s a peaceful waterside destination blending industrial heritage with scenic countryside views.

Visitors can explore the famous staircase of ten locks and see the remains of the innovative Inclined Boat Lift, once built to carry boats in giant water-filled caissons up the hill. There are passenger boat trips (April to October), day boat hire, guided walks, themed events, paddle boarding and canoeing during summer. The site also features the Canal Museum, two cafés, two pubs, a pre-loved bookshop and 34 acres of green space perfect for picnics and wildlife spotting.

Entry to Foxton Locks is free once parked, making it an affordable day out. Parking charges apply at £3 for all-day long stay, £3.50 for up to 4 hours in the short stay car park, and £5 for up to 8 hours, with free parking after 5:30pm. The
