Description

The Fort is a Martello Tower built on a small tidal islet to defend Rocquaine Bay. It is connected to the shore by a raised causeway and is known affectionately as the "Cup and Saucer". It houses a shipwreck museum and offers spectacular views of the bay and the Hanois Lighthouse.

  • The Fort is entered via a staircase and steep steps which those with restricted mobility or impaired vision might find difficult.
  • There are also steps up to the Shipwreck Museum and within the tower.
  • Assistance dogs are welcome at Fort Grey, Guernsey Museum, Castle Cornet and the GNSHQ. Pets are not permitted.

Activities & Features:

  • In the building next to Guernsey Pearl Guernsey's Roman Ship timbers are displayed with information on how it came to sink off Guernsey. The ship store is open the same hours as Fort Grey.
  • Discovery Sacks available for free loan from the Shop. These are bags filled with objects and activities to help children explore the Tower.
  • An interpretation centre, organised by La Societe Guernesiaise and containing information about the natural history of the local area is located inside a magazine just outside the walls of the fort.
  • Help-yourself trunk of trails, quizzes and spot-it picture boards available inside the Tower
  • Dressing up trunk - be a sailor, octopus or pirate!

Private guided tours of the outside areas of Castle Cornet are available and take about an hour but you must book this in advance also.The cost is £40 for a group of no more than 30 people. Normal admission charges apply.
