What to see

Felixstowe Museum houses 14 galleries displaying the military and social history of this popular seaside resort. Even the building is of historical interest as it was once a submarine mining establishment.

Children’s Activities:

The following activities for children are available for most of the season. Ask at the booking desk. In addition, check out What’s On pages for other special event days.

  • The Race for Space. New for the 2022 season – starts on May the 4th! Have some family fun following the special quiz trails around the museum. For kids, sci-fi aficionados and adults too. Cost: £1 for a trail sheet plus normal admission charges (£1 for children £4 for adults).
  • For the younger visitors, the Trewick Owl Trail is available. Enjoy finding out where the owls have roosted since the winter. Cost: 50p
  • The venue is now a learning destination for children registered with Children’s University.  There are two activities on offer. Show your passport and ask for the trail sheet or activity booklet at the kiosk. Usual admission charges apply, activities free.

Collections: Step back in time and enjoy fascinating stories from Felixstowe’s rich history. See mammoth tusks, Roman pottery, Medieval coins and cannon balls and learn about the ancient inhabitants of this region. Get a feel for life in Felixstowe during its heyday, with extensive collection of Victorian and Edwardian artefacts. Look up to see fantastic models of the planes that once filled the skies and learn about the incredible sacrifices made by wartime heroes. Learn about psychiatric care through the ages with the story of St Audry’s Hospital, and get an insight into the lives of the thousands of staff and patients who lived there. The venue is located at Landguard Point, adjacent to the Harbour Viewing Area where there is ample parking (only £1.50 for 2 hours). The scheduled hourly Number 77 bus service from Ipswich via Felixstowe to Landguard will deliver you to the venue. You can also reach by the foot ferry from Harwich and Shotley.
