Clandon Park

Clandon Park, West Clandon, Guildford, Surrey GU4 7RQ, UK
1-99 Years

Description

Clandon Park - A tranquil and relaxing space awaits you in the garden, ideal for a gentle stroll, children's play, and an informal picnic. Encounter a unique connection to New Zealand at the site of Hinemihi, the Mᾱori meeting house brought to Clandon by William, 4th Earl of Onslow, visit the 19th-century grotto, or seek out the lily pond in the Dutch Garden.

Built in the 1730s to impress and entertain by the Onslow family, the Palladian mansion was designed by Italian architect Giacomo Leoni and decorated by leading European sculptors. The house you can explore today was transformed by a huge fire that gutted it in April 2015, leaving a large brick and stone skeleton open to the skies. Although the fire destroyed much of the house's interior - revealing how it was designed, built and crafted - important elements also survive, including the dining room, known as the Speakers' Parlour.
