Description

Calum's Seal Trips offers a unique wildlife experience on the waters of Loch Carron, departing from the beautiful village of Plockton in the Scottish Highlands. Led by Calum and his knowledgeable crew, these excursions provide fascinating insights into local history and the natural environment. The venue is famous for its "free if no seals" guarantee, ensuring that every visitor enjoys an authentic and rewarding wildlife encounter.

The venue offers several aquatic activities, most notably the one-hour seal trips where guests can spot harbour seals, otters, and various seabirds like sea eagles and puffins. For a more scenic experience, visitors can join a two-hour sunset cruise to view the Applecross mountains or enjoy traditional music cruises featuring local pipers and fiddlers. Additional offerings include private charters for larger groups on the Sula Bheag or intimate gatherings on the Spindrift, with options for fishing trips, swimming, or visiting a local oyster farm.

Standard one-hour seal trips are priced at £18.00 for adults and £9.00 for children aged 4 to 16, while children 3 and under can join for free. Families can take advantage of discounted rates, with packages costing £50.00 for families with two children and £55.00 for those with three children. Private hire and bespoke tour pricing depend on the chosen boat and specific additions, such as arranged musicians or refreshments.

Overall, this attraction is a must-visit for its unrivaled opportunities to see diverse wildlife, including the rare chance to spot llamas on the shore alongside seals and dolphins. The combination of expert storytelling and the stunning rugged landscape of the Loch Carron area creates a memorable outing for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike. Whether you are seeking a lively music-filled party or a tranquil evening cruise, Calum's Seal Trips provides a welcoming and authentic Highlands experience.

Features

  • Seal Trips: Our seal trips are unique because, unlike other boat trip operators who may promise you will see seals on every trip, we don’t. No-one can guarantee this but we guarantee that you will get the trip for free if there are no seals. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a photography buff, or simply looking for a unique and memorable outing, this seal trip promises an unforgettable glimpse into the heart of Scotland’s natural splendour
  • Music Cruises: The Highlands of Scotland are known throughout the world for their traditional music. Plockton is at the very heart of the Highlands. Some of the finest musicians of the west coast have been brought up in Plockton and its near neighbour the Isle of Skye. From the swirl of the pipes to the tunes of the fiddle, music and song has been part of Plockton life for as long as anybody can remember.
  • Two-Hour Sunset Cruises: Come and enjoy a two-hour evening cruise on Spindrift lV, our Colvic Beta 38. We will set off from the beautiful village of Plockton, enjoying the unsurpassed views from the viewing deck or from the comfortable saloon while enjoying a refreshment. The trip will take you into Loch Kishorn to see the spectacular Applecross mountains, the Bealach na Ba and as you sip on a refreshing drink, perhaps a locally brewed ale or a fine Scottish whisky, you can marvel at the panoramic views of the rugged landscape.
  • Wildlife: Whether it’s on the water, in the water, on the land or in the air you will always see something on a trip on the Sula Bheag. Where else could you see seals, dolphins, otters and eagles and llamas in the same hour? Yes, even llamas, often on the shore at the Craig Highland Rare Breeds Farm, below the magnificent Plockton Crags — and remember it’s free if there are no seals!

Facilities

  • Parking: The main car park is beside one of the departure points so if you have mobility issues you should time your trip to leave from there.
  • Food & Drinks: We are not currently providing refreshments on Sula Bheag but please check for updates on this. On Spindrift refreshments are available depending on what trip you are on or what package you choose.
