Description

Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre is a historic attraction set in the Leicestershire countryside, telling the dramatic story of the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, one of the most important battles in English history. It marks the end of the Wars of the Roses and the death of King Richard III, which led to the rise of the Tudor dynasty. The site is suitable for families, history lovers, school groups, and anyone interested in medieval England.

The Heritage Centre features nine interactive exhibition galleries that explore medieval life, warfare, and the events of the battle through hands-on displays and personal stories. Visitors can walk the 2.2 km (1.25 mile) Battlefield Trail, which takes you across the actual landscape where the battle took place, with information points along the way. Other highlights include guided battlefield walks, the “Piecing Together the Past” sculpture trail, the Bosworth Discovery Zone for children, family craft activities, and access to the surrounding country park and footpaths.

Exhibition admission costs £10.00 for adults, £9.00 for concessions, and £6.95 for children aged 3–15, with children under 3 entering free. Family tickets are available at £20.00 for 1 adult + 2 children and £29.00 for 2 adults + 2 children, while guided walks are priced at £4.50 for adults, £4.00 for concessions, and £3.00 for children. Entry to the country park is free, but parking charges apply, ranging from £2.00 for up to 1 hour to £5.00 for over 3 hours.

Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre offers a full day out combining history, walking, and family-friendly activities. With its exhibitions, outdoor trails, café, events programme, and peaceful countryside setting, it appeals to both casual visitors and keen historians. Whether you’re learning about England’s past or simply enjoying the landscape, Bosworth Battlefield provides an engaging and memorable experience for all ages.

Features

  • Interactive Exhibition Galleries: Journey through medieval England and discover the horrors of medieval warfare and how the Battle of Bosworth unfolded. Follow the fortunes of four characters: John the Archer, Colette the mercenary's wife, Alice the child & Lord Thomas Stanley and hear their stories during this turbulent time. A gallery is dedicated to the rediscovery of the Battlefield after a five year survey and the final gallery compares and contrasts the reigns of Richard III and Henry Tudor.
  • Guided walks: Join us on one of our weekend guided walks to discover the amazing Bosworth Story in a fun and engaging way. Throughout the year our amazing team of Battlefield Guides delivers engaging guided walks around our Battlefield Trail, explaining the Wars of the Roses, the Battle of Bosworth, the death of King Richard III, the unlikely victory of Henry Tudor and what happened next!
  • ‘Piecing Together the Past’ and The 1485 Sculpture Trial: The sculpture, called Piecing Together the Past, is in the form of a double sided coin, with Richard III on one side and Henry VII on the other. The coins are represented in the form of a partly completed jigsaw, suggesting how little we really know of the true history of the period and the incomplete picture we have of what happened on Bosworth Battlefield on the 22nd August 1485.
  • The Bosworth Discovery Zone and Family Fun: Engage your young ones for some happy hours playing with the games on the lawn, self-led storytelling and craft activities free of charge. The zone is the perfect place for families to relax and have fun in the indoor and outdoor spaces, which offer a selection of play and craft activities. We also have two self-led craft packs available to purchase at our ticket office.
  • Country park: Visitors can enjoy this beautiful rural area on a fabulous network of footpaths. Walk the 2.2 km (1.25 m) Battlefield Trail with panoramic views over the landscape and more audio and visual information about the battle and surrounding area.
