We have over 80,000 items in our collection, from smaller items such as cutlery, books and clothing to larger items including buses, telephone boxes and even whole buildings. We are very proud to say that our entire collection is recognised for it's quality and national significance and received it's 'Designated Collection Award’ by Arts Council England in 2012.

Trails: We want all of our visitors to have a bostin’ day out with us and make lots of memories. With 29 acres to explore and historic characters to meet, there’s a lot to see! Let us help you make the most of your visit by suggesting our favourite trails to pick your own adventure.

  • Two-hour trail: We recommend four to five hours for a visit, but if you’re short on time, we think this trail is for you.
  • Fun for kids: If you’re bringing children, take a look at what we think they’ll love to do.
  • If it's raining: Come rain or shine, you’ll still have a bostin’ time! Don’t miss our favourite indoor spots.
  • Industrial enthusiasts: From chainmaking to aluminium casting, find out more about the Black Country’s industrial past.
  • Start in 1712: Our storytelling covers 1712 through to 1968, so if you want to visit in chronological order, this trail is for you.
  • Cosy days: A day of history, cosy corners and open fireplaces are waiting for you – perfect to escape Jack Frost nipping at your nose!
  • Automotive admirers: We have the biggest collection of Black Country vehicles, from motorcycles to a fire engine!
  • Nature lovers: Did you know you can travel through history by exploring gardens? We have 10 gardens across the Museum.

  • Parking: There is both car and coach parking at the Museum. A parking charge applies for the whole day. BCLM Members and Blue Badge holders park for free, subject to availability.
  • Food & Drinks: There are a variety of cafés, pubs and shops around the Museum for you to pick up something to eat or drink while you are enjoying your visit.
  • Dogs: Only Guide dogs, assistance dogs and animals under the Museum’s management and care are allowed into the Museum on a daily basis.

  • By road: Black Country Living Museum is situated in the heart of the Black Country on the A4037 between Dudley and Tipton. The Museum is well signposted from the M5 and M6. Exit the A4037 (Tipton Road) onto Discovery Way. At the end of Discovery Way, at the roundabout take the second exit. Turn right into the car park. 
  • By bicycle: The Museum is on the national cycle network route (Dudley National Cycle Route). You can also take a slight detour if you are on the West Midlands Cycle Route (National Cycle Routes 5 and 54) or the Birmingham to Wolverhampton Cycle Route (National Cycle Route 81).
  • By bus: A number of bus routes stop outside the Museum including: 229 Bilston to Dudley via Coseley, Sedgley (operated by Diamond), 11 Walsall to Merry Hill via Wednesbury, Dudley (operated by National Express West Midlands), 11 Walsall to Dudley via Wednesbury (operated by National Express West Midlands).
  • By rail: We are 1 mile from Tipton Train Station, which is on the Birmingham to Wolverhampton line operated by West Midlands Railway.
