The Richard Pate School is Independent Primary school in Gloucestershire for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
Set in a beautiful 11-acre semi-rural site in Leckhampton on the outskirts of Cheltenham, it is a happy and aspirational school offering a love of learning, breadth of opportunity and a strong sense of community and fun.The majority of the children join in Nursery and from the age of three they aim to instil a joy of learning that follows them throughout their time with them and beyond. They have invested significantly in the school over the years and are very fortunate to benefit from specialist facilities including an art studio, science lab, music centre and floodlit astro. This allows the specialist staff to offer the children the broadest possible education. We also take great pride in helping parents to choose the right onward destination to suit their particular child. In my time as Head the children have transitioned to over 40 different schools with each suited to their own particular strengths and attributes. A large percentage gain places at grammar schools or scholarships at independent senior schools. More important than any of these reasons is the sense of family that links us all together.
Nursery (Ages 3-4)
The Nursery at the Richard Pate School is a friendly, happy and welcoming setting for children from 3 years. They are dedicated to providing the highest possible standards and early years care and education. The Nursery is located next to the main school in its own grounds where the children enjoy free flow between the very well-resourced inside and outside areas.
Prep (Ages 4-7)
The Prep Department offers a warm, caring and nurturing environment in which each child feels secure, valued, stimulated and above all, happy. The broad and engaging curriculum ensures that pupils develop an early love of learning and are well prepared for their journey through the rest of the school. A variety of teaching methods are applied to suit pupils of all abilities and key skills are developed through carefully planned activities. From Reception onwards, children are organised into two classes which work closely together to plan and deliver the curriculum throughout their time in Prep.
Juniors (Ages 7+ – 11)
Children join the Junior department of the school at age 7, moving into Year 3 and a new part of the school. At Richard Pate, they understand that moving up into a new section of the school can be a daunting prospect and they take every step to ensure the transition is both smooth and natural for the children. There is a gradual increase in the specialist teaching as children progress through the Junior Department; the needs and capabilities of the individual are always the prime consideration. Nevertheless, they continue to strive for academic excellence the children are expected to do homework each week and over weekends. They expect parents to create the right environment in which homework can be done. Learning support is provided for children experiencing difficulties with their work.
Prep Co-Curricular
At Christmas the Reception children perform a Christmas Show, supported by the rest of the children in the Prep Department. In the Summer Term the Year 2 children perform a play with the rest of the children in Prep joining in with singing. Children in Years 1 and 2 can also take part in extra-curricular clubs. These vary each year but have included gardening club, Prep choir, recorder club, construction club and multi-skills club.Children also use visits to bring the curriculum alive, for example trips to the local wetland centre at Slimbridge, Gloucester Cathedral, The Living Rainforest as well as walks in the local area. They also encourage visitors into school to talk on a range of subjects.
Junior Co-Curricular
At Richard Pate, the children receive the best education to help them succeed in academic life and prepare them for senior school. Whilst this is of-course important, they also believe that a child’s learning goes beyond the classroom, and that children benefit from the development of their own specific interests and skills. To support this growth, they offer a wide range of co-curricular activities led by our team of enthusiastic staff as well as some external providers.
