The move to co-education will be phased in gradually starting with Reception entry in September 2023, and will be completed across all year groups by September 2029.With the school’s new day nursery opening in September 2022, The Mall will now offer an excellent education across 50 weeks of the year for children aged 6 months to 11 years. They’ve embraced change, having rebuilt and expanded our facilities to include a beautiful theatre and much-loved swimming pool. We’ve responded to changes in the market, phasing out our 11 to 13 provision and launching a new day nursery. We are redeveloping our play areas with a child-focused approach. They are a school that constantly seeks to discover and innovate, to strive for great achievement with a spirit of adventure. This is just the beginning … together let’s ignite the love of learning.

Facilities

Pre-Prep
The Mall School offers a friendly, stimulating and vibrant environment in which boys entering Reception and Year 1 are encouraged to thrive. The dedicated teaching staff and teaching assistants encourage the boys’ natural curiosity of the world around them, inspiring and guiding them through a whole range of subjects, so that each child can achieve their full potential, be it academic, sporting, creative or musical. The Mall values of being kind, polite, honest, caring and always doing our best are nurtured throughout the school and we strive to encourage all to challenge themselves to be the best they can be.

Prep School
In Years 2 and 3 boys are taught for most of their subjects by their class teacher, who will get to know them, and you, extremely well. Boys are taught by subject rather than a topic based curriculum with specialist teaching in music, PE and French. From Year 2 boys can start to learn to play a musical instrument and in Year 3 boys compete against other schools in sports fixtures, and go on their first residential trip where they climb, abseil, try archery and complete team building activities. Boys also start to take on more responsibility and in Year 3 can become monitors or junior house captains.

Features

Things to note

Music
Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act.  It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development.  As an integral part of culture, past and present, it helps pupils understand themselves and relate to others, forging important links between the home, school and the wider world.

Sports
They offer boys lots of opportunities to play a range of sports where we focus on their performance, styles of play and teamwork.Pre-Prep boys have a weekly PE lesson with a specialist sports teacher where they begin to develop the basic skills they need to play team games when they move into the junior school. In Year 2 boys have a weekly games afternoon in addition to their swimming and PE lessons.

Art
Art is an important part of the school experience at The Mall.  From the moment your son joins the school, he will take part in a range of creative art activities. In Reception to Year 3, he’s taught art in his classroom and then from Years 4 to 6, he is taught in a purpose-built, spacious studio. There he will be taught technical and practical skills to enable him to use a wide range of materials confidently and competently, including firing his own clay works of art in our kiln.
