The Bishop's Stortford High School is leading State Secondary school in Bishop's Stortford. This is a Non-selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Boys
Educating approximately 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large co-educational sixth form, of which a third are female students. As the Headteacher, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our website and our school. We pride ourselves on being an academic school built on traditional principles and high standards, within a Christian ethos, which is reflected in our excellent results. In March 2017 Ofsted judged the school to be Outstanding in every category with their report, which I urge you to read, highlighting our many strengths and the great opportunities we provide.
KS3 & 4
In Year 7 boys are primarily taught in all-ability groups, although there is a degree of setting in Mathematics and Languages. Further setting by ability is introduced in Year 9.
In Year 9 students can narrow down the number of subjects they study before making their final options choices and deciding which subjects to study through to GCSE level. As such Year 9 is a GCSE Foundation Year.
In Year 9 students study their Foundation GCSE courses equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to start their GCSE courses in Year 10. In Years 10 & 11 all boys will study for GCSEs in English (usually Language and Literature), Mathematics and Science. In some subjects, where appropriate, there is the possibility of students taking their GCSE a year early and going on to higher level courses in Year 11. The remainder of students’ study is made up of option subjects which currently include Art, Business Studies, Design and Technology Food, Graphics or Resistant Materials, Drama, French, Geography, German, History, Latin, Media studies, Music, Religious Studies and Separate Sciences. Boys also have RS and Citizenship and Physical Education lessons.
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form provides a unique, dynamic, enjoyable and highly personalised experience that produces outstanding outcomes in the classroom and across all aspects of School life pride ourselves on a truly inclusive and outstanding all-round education, combining the importance of academic rigour with extensive opportunities outside the classroom, all delivered by a dedicated team of high-quality professionals.
Art
Designed to share the wonderful outcomes produced by students studying Art & Design from Y7 to Y13. Developed overlock down as a way of celebrating their work when live exhibitions were not possible, it now continues to broaden its scope and invites parents to share in our students creativity. See links to short films of A-level work, links to interesting articles as well as finding out background information on the students intentions and inspiration.
