Facilities

Curriculum
They have designed a functional curriculum that meets the needs of all of our pupils, and can be tailored to suit individual strengths and abilities. The skills they teach are relevant, accessible, functional and motivating. The curriculum is centered on the concepts of Intent, Implementation and Impact. They aim to achieve this through our shared values ‘LEARNS’ – Laughter, Evidence, Aspire, Respect, Nurture, and Safe. To find out more information please see: Curriculum Summary. The curriculum is taught through a combination of individual, paired and small group teaching and accommodates the learning styles and communication systems of all pupils. We use visual aids, sign language and reinforcement (reward) systems in different situations to enhance its delivery.Whole school enrichment opportunities (such as: Comic/Sport Relief, World Book day and Children in Need) are recognised and celebrated collaboratively across all phases of the school. In their classes, all pupils take part in weekly onsite and/or offsite PE lessons. We offer a broad range of activities for example: Basketball, Circuits, Yoga, Nature exploration, Team games, and Athletics run by an in-house PE teacher. Pupils also have the opportunity to join in with collaborative PE and Games at Young Epilepsy School (in Lingfield) once a term.

ABA
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the applied branch of the science of Behaviour Analysis. Behaviour Analysis states that all human behaviour is affected by its immediate consequences. Therefore, new behaviours can be taught, and negative behaviours can be reduced, by understanding and changing their consequences. One of the key aspects of an ABA programme is that it is highly individualised for the learner. Learning should be fun, and therefore the programme is adapted around the learner’s favourite activities, using these as rewards for learning new skills. The skills that are taught are also determined by what is most important for the individual learner, rather than following a set curriculum that may not be appropriate for the learner.
