The school in Shadwell is an inclusive Primary School in the heart of the village. Within the school, reading is a pivotal gateway to learning. Reading allows children to gain insight to the world around them and appreciate the diverse, inclusive society we all thrive in. It provides them with an unlimited amount of knowledge that they can utilise to develop understanding in all areas of the curriculum. We give them the space to explore their voice, develop their confidence and formulate opinions influenced by our wide-variety literature. They encourage them to make connections between texts, characters and their own experiences and have the rich vocabulary to express themselves. Throughout our school reading is a purposeful and immersive experience with authentic learning opportunities. They recognise reading is fundamental to every child’s life-long development. They are committed to ensure every child is engaging with a range of challenge books and reading without delay. As a result, our pupils are confident and fluent readers with outstanding comprehension skills and a life-long love of reading.

Music at Shadwell
In addition to the enriching music curriculum, they also run a KS2 choir, with future plans to start a KS1 choir. This allows the children who love to sing to develop their singing skills as part of a group. They provide the children with lots of opportunities to perform both within school as well as in the wider community. If your child is interested in getting involved with the choir, or you have any opportunities for the choir to get involved with, please let the school know.
Sport at Shadwell
They have a number of sports teams that represent the schools including boys’ and girls’ football teams throughout Years 3-6, second teams for football teams so all children have the opportunity to participate, tag rugby teams, netball teams, dodgeball teams and cricket teams as well as an athletics team. They regularly compete in tournaments/fixtures almost every day with other schools the north of Leeds but also city-wide.As well as establishing participation competitions within our Federation where all KS2 children take part; last year we had 215 out of 222 KS2 pupils participate in our tag rugby ‘World Series’ event, they also aim high on a competitive level
