Founded in 1881, Port Regis is steeped in history and yet it remains a community that is, at its core, forward thinking and innovative in its approach to educating young children.Few other prep schools can provide the breadth of experience on offer at Port Regis. It is renowned for its exceptional staff and academic credentials, as well as its first-class facilities set within 150 acres of stunning grounds in rural Dorset. These facilities (that eclipse many at senior schools) enable Port Regis to deliver an outstanding holistic education that inspires the head, the hand and the heart. And an education such as this should not only be purposeful and stretching, but also great fun! The best schools should be joyful schools. Joy and wonder are integral parts of childhood and should be visible and audible in every corridor, classroom and playground.
Pre Prep
They pride ourselves on providing a balance of high academic standards, meeting the needs of all our pupils, while promoting a sense of exploration and discovery and an overall a love of learning. We spend as much time as possible outside, going for walks and nature trails, planting and digging in our garden and using our purpose-built Forest School to develop children’s understanding and enjoyment of the natural environment.
Prep
At Port Regis we are passionate about breadth. Alongside the core subjects of English, mathematics and science, each child’s academic experience here will feature languages (at least one modern and at least one ancient), geography, history, and religious studies, leading to formal exams in the Summer Term of the A Form (Year 8). With a commitment to breadth such as this, our policy is to recruit the very best teachers who are not only highly qualified and experienced subject specialists, but who have the ability to inspire and nurture the pupils in their classes.
Extra Curricular

In Years 1 and 2 they can learn a musical instrument including piano. recorder, percussion or violin.Drama also plays a key role. As well as developing key speaking, listening and confidence skills, the Pre-Prep productions, led by Head of Drama, Hazel Hiles, are a highlight for children and parents alike.
