Northampton School for Boys is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Boys)

Northampton School for Boys is an 11-18 state funded single sex boys’ school. Girls are admitted to the Sixth Form. The school has an illustrious heritage; founded in 1541 by Thomas Chipsey in Bridge Street it then moved to the present site in 1911. His fellow trustees included Laurence and Edward Manley, William Brightwell and Laurence Washington – an antecedent of George Washington, first President of the USA.

Curriculum
At Northampton School for Boys, they deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that is rigorously academic and aspirational for all, regardless of background or need; they value the ambition of the English Baccalaureate and believe that all students should have access to the ‘best that has been thought and said’. They are exceptionally proud of how the curriculum also offers breadth and balance through the extensive extra-curricular and super-curricular programme, allowing students to contribute to our rich heritage of sporting, artistic and academic excellence – a heritage that is at the heart of the school’s DNA. Whilst we respect and honour our long-held traditions, we also ensure that students flourish and thrive in the modern world – equipping them with the skills, attitudes, and values to navigate a successful future beyond the doors of NSB. They are committed to building a ‘curriculum culture’ - embracing the idea that curriculum design is necessarily challenging and is never a finished artefact. By engaging in ongoing curriculum conversations, they ensure the students are emboldened and inspired by powerful knowledge of their subjects and the wider world.

Things to note

Supporting Sport at NSB
The school offers over 80 extra-curricular sports clubs weekly. The range is from recreational and beginner level to elite athletes. NSB has been voted the top state school for sport in the UK 3 times in the last 6 years. Training, facilities, equipment and additional external coaching costs £150,000 per year but they compete at the very highest level and aim to develop each student to their maximum potential. Training equipment, transport, team teas, competition fees, playing kit etc all add up, but they want to offer the best sporting opportunity for all. Over 1500 students take part in the physical education curriculum weekly and an astounding number of students take part in the extra-curricular programme.
