Early Years
In the Early Years at Knightsbridge School, they use and follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2021. Children in the Foundation Stage learn the EYFS curriculum through the Birth to 5 Matters incorporating the prime areas of; Physical Development, Communication and Language and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These Prime Areas underpin the basics and support the other areas of learning. We also focus on the four specific areas; Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Children primarily learn through play and teachers act as facilitators of their learning, moving each child forward at their own pace. Positive, consistent and unique learning experiences in the Early Years benefit children in developing social skills and enhance their overall ability to learn and their social skills which will then benefit them for the rest of their time in school.
Junior
In all subjects, teachers strive to spark imaginations, exploring ideas in new and unexpected ways. This is encouraged through asking big questions, developing pupils’ creative and critical thinking skills. The English Department at Knightsbridge School operates a flexible curriculum that balances linguistic and literary work according to the children’s ability. In the Junior School (year 1-3), the emphasis is naturally upon technical accuracy and the acquisition of basic literacy skills.Work is differentiated for all abilities, and the members of the Junior Team work closely with colleagues in the Learning Support Department. The English department seeks to develop pupils’ ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing, and to listen with understanding. We also seek to create enthusiastic, responsive and knowledgeable readers.
Senior
At Knightsbridge, we are proud of developing happy, confident students who are interesting and interested in the world around them. We are thrilled to be able to provide the same stimulating education and supportive pastoral care for our students through some of their trickiest years up to GCSE.Knightsbridge School has exceptional pastoral support in place for all our students. We take a holistic approach, appreciating the connection between how we feel and how we learn. As such we develop students’ emotional intelligence and provide a positive culture in which students feel safe and heard. Each student is part of a form group and has a tutor to guide and support them with their academics and social relationships. Our Senior students are eager to develop their leadership, volunteering as Prefects in a range of areas, from Sport to Wellbeing. There is the opportunity for all Seniors to support and mentor younger children within the Junior School, supporting our ethos as a through-school
SPORTS
Students have Games lessons in which they learn the core British sports; netball/football, hockey/rugby, rounders/cricket and athletics. The students have PE lessons where they learn about how their bodies react to exercise and the importance of leading a healthy and active life whilst learning a range of indoor sports such as badminton, basketball, volleyball and squash. Matches in the core sports are played against local and country schools both home and away from year 2 upwards. The school also enters a range of tournaments including national ISA events. Inter-house competitions are held across the school in all core sports as well as swimming, cross country and of course there is our annual Sports Day.
PERFORMING ARTS
The Performing Arts team works with an ethos that every child deserves their ‘moment’ – every student will have a chance to shine in the productions and showcases, however big or small it’s about working together to produce something to be proud of. We truly believe every child has the talent and scope to achieve extraordinary things. Collaboration through Music, Drama and Dance creates the perfect platform to combine these skills and our teachers have professional experience both as performers, as well as directing and choreographing.
