King’s School and Nursery in Plymouth is a co-educational independent school for children of nursery age up to 11 years old. Kings School provides a complete education in a warm and nurturing environment. They have a happy family atmosphere with a strong sense of community where the development of individual personality is nurtured within a framework of security and positive reinforcement. Good manners and thoughtfulness for others are core values and children learn to take responsibility whilst gaining in self-confidence, self-discipline and maturity.
Plymouth Nursery
They provide a warm, friendly, family atmosphere and build close links with our parents, fostering a bond of trust. The Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond rooms are bright, colourful and welcoming and all the staff throughout the nursery will get to know your child, offering them a comforting and safe environment where they feel valued. They regularly communicate with you about activities and progress, so they can share their journey of development together.
Pre-Reception and Reception Class
Children move to Pre-Reception the term after their 3rd birthday. Pre-Reception is term time with holidaycare and is billed on a termly basis. Pre-Reception is where we prepare children for entry to King’s School Reception class. They develop knowledge, skills and confidence that will enable them to make a smooth transition to the next stage of their life at King’s.From Pre-Reception children are taught by specialist staff, on a weekly basis in French, Music, and Ballet. They also commence Read, Write, Inc lessons which develops the children’s phonic knowledge foundation to prepare them their reading, spelling, comprehension and writing skills.
Years 1 & 2
Here in the Infant Department, they benefit from 6 small classes that are year group specific and also have five classroom assistants. This allows us the privilege of really getting to know our children on an individual basis. They aim to give the children a really solid educational foundation with their learning by exploring lots of topics that inspire their interests and encourage them to want to find out more. They use a mix of visual, audio and kinaesthetic teaching methods, complementing the learning styles of the children and giving a more rounded learning experience.
Years 3 to 6
They are careful to focus our attention on individual learning needs so as to ensure that your child fulfils the best of their potential. They know that, in the upper junior years, thoughts turn to life after King’s. As a genuinely independent school, they are able to advise on the secondary school that is best suited to your child’s talents and aspirations and to support him or her through the entire transition process. As part of our approach, we offer additional support in preparing your child for successful entry into their chosen school through SATs, the 11+ examination or other school entrance assessment requirements.
Extracurricular Programme
King’s School has an extensive range of extracurricular activities to enrich the children’s learning experience.
