Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation

Description

Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation is Independent Primary school in Slough for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Shakhsiyah Schools are governed by the Principles of Shakhsiyah Education, which have been developed through extensive research in order to generate a 21st century Islamic educational model that is true to the Qur’an and sunnah. We have a strong Islamic and ‘alternative’ ethos which means we don’t approach learning in the same way as other schools. Our priorities are different and therefore our practice is different. We have a holistic approach that has similarities with various ‘alternative’ models including un-schooling, home schooling, Human Scale Education, Steiner Schools and Montessori, amongst others. Above all, we aim to educate our children to be strong independent Muslims who recognize their interdependence on others and choose to serve Islam due to their own personal conviction. We engage in tarbiyah, ta’alim and taadib to develop Shakhsiyah Islamiyah. In accordance with the saying of Ali ibn Abi Talib, we educate our children for a time that is not our time (the future). As such they aim to prepare children for their future life in modern Britain and the global village, taking part in and serving their local and wider communities.

Early Years
Early Years ethos is that learning is through providing a stimulating adult supported environment for young children to develop their shakhsiyah, thinking, self awareness and physical development. They are continuously developing new and exciting ways of encouraging personal development in all areas of learning in a safe and stimulating environment. In addition to our themes, teachers cater for the particular interests and choices of individual children in their care. This happens by observing each child’s play regularly and planning and resourcing the environment accordingly to enhance that child’s interest. This ensures that the classroom environment incorporates the learning and development of all the children. These observations cover all areas of learning.

Primary School
The Halaqah Curriculum is derived from our Principle of Halaqah. At its heart, is the intention to develop and nurture our children to be thinking reflective committed Muslims who consciously choose to embrace the Islamic way of life and embody ‘Shakhsiyah Islamiyah’. The Halaqah incorporates elements of Citizenship, PSHE, History and Religious Education. All children take part in Halaqah daily; the sessions are child-centred and sometimes child-led. Halaqah is designed to enable children to learn about Islam in the context of living as Muslims in British society, contributing positively to society and facing the challenges of the contemporary world. The traditional Islamic practice of Halaqah is oral, reflective, dialogic and transformative.

Secondary School
Continuing on from the provision of Arabic language in Early Years and Primary School, our Secondary provision adopts the same approach i.e. understanding Arabic as the language of the Qur’an. Students who join the school in Red Class, are able to sit their GCSE Arabic in Year 8.In previous years, non-Arabic speaking learners who have studied at Shakhsiyah have taken GCSE Arabic at ages 11-15 and gained A* and A grades. They have gone on to take AS and A-level Arabic at ages 15-19 and have again achieved A grades. Some of our alumni have been inspired to study Arabic at degree level.

Things to note

Beyond the Classroom
At Shakhsiyah Schools we believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and extends well beyond the classroom. As a community, we are constantly seeking knowledge to grow closer to Allah (swt). The curriculum and formal classroom learning is just one element of learning in Shakhsiyah Schools. Children learn through all aspects of school life in many ways as our concept of learning is holistic tarbiyah.
