Hornsby House School is Independent Primary school in Wandsworth for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
They have a reputation for being a very warm, nurturing and inclusive school and yet there is a very real academic rigour here, driven by an ambitious teaching staff and no better illustrated than by our record breaking 11+ results over the last three years. They now have 430 children enjoying an excellent Hornsby education, on a fantastic site between Balham and Wandsworth Common.
Curriculum
At Hornsby House the curriculum is designed to take a child from Reception to Year 6 and to enable every pupil to reach his or her potential. They offer a balanced timetable, with a broad range of subjects taught each week alongside a daily English and mathematics lesson. The school week also includes the opportunity for practical, creative and physical activities, both within and outside the classroom. As the children progress through the school, the number of specialist subject lessons increases and the children have the opportunity to experience a variety of teachers and teaching styles. Entry at Reception is non-selective and we work to achieve the best progress for each individual by adapting our approach to challenge or give support as needed.
Extra Curricular
The school journeys and wide range of after school clubs are designed to expand the children’s experience beyond the normal school curriculum. Children have the opportunity to extend their skills, knowledge and enjoyment of activities with which they are already familiar as well as experiencing new ones.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Entry to Reception
Places for the Reception Classes are offered a year and a half in advance of entry. Registered siblings and the children of staff and ex-pupils have priority for entry to the Reception Classes and then places will be offered in order of “age of the child at registration,” that is, the time elapsed between the date of birth and the date of registration in years, months and days.
Entry to Years 1 to 6
A few occasional places may become available for entry into Years 1 to 6. Children wishing to enter the school in these year groups must be registered by November of the previous year and will then be invited to attend an assessment in January for entry the following September.
