Great Ballard School is a co-educational independent school for children aged 2½ to 16 years.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Step one
Enquiry: The best way to get a feel for the school would be to come and visit. They always welcome prospective parents, whether during school hours – when you can get a first-hand glimpse of varied daily routine – or during one of the organised open morning events.
Step two
Registration of interest: Following your visit, you will be able to register your child. You will need to complete Registration Form and submit a £50 (non-refundable) registration fee. This registers your interest in a place for your child in their required year group, but does not guarantee them a place.
Once both the registration form and associated payment have been received, your application will be processed.
Step three
Taster day and assessment: Taster sessions, the length and number of which will depend on your child’s age and what will make them feel most comfortable. Pre-Prep aged children (Reception to Year 2) will be invited to join for “New Friends” days, during which your child would be informally assessed whilst experiencing a normal day with their peer group. Prep School and Senior children (Years 3-11) will be invited to join for two taster days, the first being a normal day spent with their peer group and the second allowing us to carry out some standardised assessments in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Step four
Admission: Your child will be offered a place on the basis of a successful taster session and/or assessments plus references and a copy of their latest report sought from their current school. Parents are asked to complete Acceptance Form, which is based on terms and conditions, in order to confirm the acceptance of a place. Parents are also asked to pay a £300 deposit to guarantee their child’s place. This deposit is refundable when your child leaves Great Ballard. Before your child joins Great Ballard, they will keep you updated with events and you will receive a joining pack and be invited to relevant information meetings. Please contact Admissions Registrar, Rachel Lewis, on 01243 814236 or via email to [email protected] to request an information pack, to find out details about any forthcoming Open Morning events or to arrange a visit and a meeting with Headmaster, Matthew King.
