Dauntsey's School is a public school (independent boarding and day school) for pupils aged 11–18.

Facilities

  • The school has invested significantly in the sports facilities, including eight rugby/football pitches, two AstroTurf hockey pitches, seven all-weather netball/tennis courts, an athletics track and a seven-hole golf course. There are indoor facilities as well, such as swimming pool and sports hall.
  • Dance studio is a delightful space with fully sprung floor and wall to wall mirrors into which light floods in.
  • Annabel's Studio is an entirely flexible space which is used for teaching, for exam presentation work, workshops and for smaller-scale productions. 
  • The studio is equipped with lighting and sound equipment, and sets are built to the requirements of each production.

  • The School curriculum includes a wide variety of adventurous programmes and challenges and the option to take part in expeditions, home and abroad, to locations such as the Brecon Beacons, Iceland, Arctic Sweden, the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan and Tanzania.
  • At Dauntsey's they believe that sport plays an essential role in the development of character and should be an integral part of daily life at School
  • With concerts or recitals most weeks, six or seven drama productions every year and a major dance showcase, there is plenty of opportunity and choice.
  • A wide ranging art programme is offered to all pupils including: painting and drawing, relief printing, sculpture and ceramics. 
  • The numerous and wide ranging extra-curricular clubs and activities are designed to stimulate the interests of pupils in their free time. Options include, among others: Chess Club, First Aid, Handicraft, Beekeeping, Dance and Drama. There are Language Clubs for linguists, creative sessions for artists, Cookery Club for foodies, and the History and Geography departments organise lectures from distinguished visiting speakers.

Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

Entry at 11: Candidates sit papers in English (comprehension and composition) and Maths and take a verbal reasoning (multiple choice) test. All prospective pupils are interviewed in the same week as the examination. 

Entry at 13: For those joining at 13, selection is based on the ISEB Common Pre-Test (taken at prep schools) and interview, or their own entrance exams. At this point of entry (Year 9) only boarding places are available. All registered pupils currently at a prep school will be invited to sit the Independent Schools Examining Board (ISEB) Common Pre-Tests at their prep schools early in the Spring Term of their Year 7. A formal interview and Taster Day at Dauntsey’s follows in early March of their Year 7. 

Joining in the Sixth Form: For those joining the Sixth Form, selection is based on predicted grades, school reference and an interview. Sixth Form candidates should be predicted a minimum of three level 7s and three level 6s at I/GCSE. 

Fees

From September 2022:

  • Boarding pupils: £35,100 (£11,700 per term)
  • International boarding pupils: £40,545 (£13,515 per term)

A 10% discount on boarding fees will apply for second and subsequent pupils from the same family attending Dauntsey’s together. Fees are subject to review each year.

Scholarships

First Form Scholarships: Academic Scholarships at this point of entry are awarded on the results of the entrance examination and entrance interviews, held in mid January. Awards for Music and Sport are offered either through audition or sports assessment. Head Master's Awards are also available at 11+ entry and all pupils are assessed for these as part of the interview and examination process.

Third Form Scholarships: Academic, Sport, and Music Scholarships, Jolie Brise All Rounder Boarding Award and Awards in Drama, Dance and Art are all available at this point of entry and carry a maximum fee remission of 10%. 

Sixth Form Scholarships: For Sixth Form pupils, the School offers a number of Scholarships and Awards. With the exception of Boarding Awards, Sixth Form Scholarships and awards are available for both day and boarding places.
