Chafyn Grove School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 14 (Gender - 3 to 14 )
Chafyn Grove is a school of over 200 boys and girls, between the ages of three and thirteen. It is set on the edge of Salisbury in its own spacious grounds, with both the cathedral and the local countryside within walking distance. Chafyn children enjoy excellent facilities, first-class teaching and unrivalled opportunities. Chafyn Grove aims to provide an environment of enjoyable challenge for boys and girls from 3 to 13 years old. They believe that it is vital for children to experience a wide range of opportunity, to discover their strengths and learn from their weaknesses. It is important that there is breadth, depth and balance in the provision to achieve this aim. This is crafted from high-quality, meaningful relationships between each pupil and their teachers.
Early Years
The Nursery welcomes children from the age of three. Children can do a different number of days through the week and the school day itself consists of a combination of morning and/or afternoon sessions. Throughout the day, the children are learning and building on every imaginable skill – from developing fine motor skills to interacting with others. The small group sizes and consistency of a fully qualified teacher-led environment enables children to attempt a range of enjoyable activities which include cookery, French, ICT, woodland adventures, swimming, messy play and mindfulness. As well as teacher-guided activities, the children have the opportunities to exercise their learning in the direction they choose, through child-initiated activities and regular unstructured free-play.
Pre Prep
Our Pre-Prep department consists of our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes (3 – 7 year olds). There are usually two classes in Years 1 and 2 of around a dozen children in each; our Reception group normally numbers around 15. Fully qualified Teacher Assistants are used in each class to ensure that adult to child ratios are as positive as possible. While the clear majority of our Nursery go through to our Reception class, there is also a significant intake from other settings.A distinctive quality of our Pre-prep is that while they have their own bespoke facilities, they also have full access to the rest of the school. For instance, from Year 1 the children visit the Art block for those lessons, enabling a far greater range of experience. Whilst the form tutor remains the primary teacher, specialists are used for Art, Music, Games, French and ICT.
Prep
The Prep school is comprised of Years Three to Eight (7 to 13 year olds). There are usually two classes in each year group, consisting of around a dozen pupils in each form. Some subjects are streamed into three sets, for instance Maths throughout the age-range. Spanish is taught from Year 5 alongside French throughout the school; Latin starts in Year 6.Each class has a form tutor. In Years 3 & 4, the tutor delivers a significant share of the timetable. From Year 5, children move around the school more to be taught by subject specialists for every lesson. The form tutor is the first port of call for any enquiry and a key part of our pastoral system.
TODDLER GROUP
During term-time, Chafyn Grove runs a Toddler session led by one of its Teacher Assistants in the Pre-Prep hall. There are a range of themed activities on offer – and tea and coffee! It is an ideal way to introduce your child to Chafyn Grove and members of its community. Friday 9.30 – 11am – £1 per family.
