Description

The Port Isaac Treasure Trail is a self-guided treasure hunt adventure set in the charming fishing village of Port Isaac. This interactive walking Trail lets families and friends explore the village while solving clues along the route. It offers a fun way to discover the harbour, coastal paths and historic streets while completing an exciting treasure-seeking mission.

The story follows the mysterious case of a missing platinum disc belonging to the world-famous local folk group, The Cod Catchers' Colleagues. A disgruntled roadie has stolen the band’s equipment and hidden it around Port Isaac, along with their prized platinum album award. As treasure seekers, you’ll follow clues along the South West Coast Path, through winding alleyways and around the harbour to uncover the hidden disc and return it to the band.

The Trail costs £9.99 GBP per Trail, with one booklet recommended for a group of 4 to 5 people. Treasure Trail birthday parties are also available, where teams explore the route, crack clues and solve the mystery together, usually working best in small groups with adult supervision for younger children.

The Port Isaac Treasure Trail is a unique way to explore this picturesque Cornish village while enjoying a fun outdoor challenge. It combines sightseeing, puzzle-solving and storytelling to create a memorable adventure for all ages. Perfect for families, friends and visitors, it turns a simple walk around Port Isaac into an exciting treasure hunt experience.

Facilities

  • Parking: The best long-stay pay and display car park is Port Isaac's Main Car Park (PL29 3TR), which is just off the main B3267 road into the village, which is right next to the starting point of the Trail. There is also an alternative Council run car park at New Road, (PL293SB) but at peak times during the year this is often full.
  • Food & Drinks: The route passes several shops, pubs, cafes, and restaurants along the way (seasonal opening hours may apply), so again, you have plenty of chances to stock up on supplies or enjoy the wide range of facilities on offer.
  • Toilets: There are public toilets available at the Main Car Park at the beginning and end of the Trail (may incur a small charge), as well as at a mid-point in the village and again towards the end, so the village is well catered for on that front!

Birthday Party Details

Want a birthday that’s actually fun (and doesn’t involve everyone just sitting around)? A Treasure Trail is an easy, ready-to-go adventure that gets people outside, exploring and laughing together. Our pre-written Trails are suitable for children and adults aged 6+, and work best in small teams of around 4–5 people. Everyone follows the route, cracks the clues, and solves the mystery as they go.

How a Treasure Trail birthday works

  • Pick a location (choose somewhere local, or make it part of a day out).
  • Split into teams (4–5 per team works best).
  • Set the mission (a quick briefing + team names instantly boosts excitement).
  • Start times (stagger teams by 2–5 minutes to avoid copying).
  • Finish with prizes (more on that below!).

Children’s birthday parties: what to know

  • We get asked a lot whether Trails work for children’s parties.
  • Standard Trails are designed for ages 6+, but at that age they’re best enjoyed as a family group or mixed adult/child team, because the directions and clue-solving usually need grown-up support.
  • If you’ve got 20 energetic 6-year-olds and one adult, a standard Trail probably isn’t the right fit.
  • For older children (often 9/10+, depending on the group), small teams can work really well, but they’ll still need adult supervision, especially near roads and crossings.

Ready to plan your birthday Trail?

  • Pick a location, choose your Trail, and you’re good to go.
  • If you’d like help choosing a Trail that suits your group size, ages, and timings, get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Visit the website for more information.

Trails are self-guided and can be instantly downloaded from the Treasure Trail website. Follow the Trail, solve the clues and see the sights on any day of your choosing.
