The National Stud

Description

The National Stud is a unique Thoroughbred breeding centre located in the heart of Newmarket, between the Rowley Mile and July Racecourses. It is part of the Jockey Club Group and plays a major role in British horse racing and breeding. The venue also welcomes the public, offering rare behind-the-scenes access to the world of Thoroughbred horses.

Visitors can take part in guided public and private tours, booked through Discover Newmarket, offering insight into Thoroughbred breeding and stud life. Depending on the season, visitors may see mares with foals, yearlings, and stallions, including those housed in the historic Duke of Roxburghe Stallion Unit. Other activities include learning about the history of the stud, the Foaling Unit where over 100 foals are born each year, and the education programmes offering entry-level to management courses.

Visitors are advised to contact The National Stud directly for current tour prices and costs.

The National Stud offers a rare and educational experience unlike any other in the UK. Its beautiful grounds, knowledgeable guides, and access to working stud facilities make visits both informative and memorable. It’s an ideal place to visit for horse racing fans, families, students, and anyone interested in the heritage and future of Thoroughbred breeding.

Features

  • Boarding: Whatever the horse, our aims are simple: the highest possible standard of care and first class communication, all at a cost that is fair. Our team work alongside some of the industry’s most well respected vets and farriers; making sure that you and your horse receive the best possible standard of care at every stage of the process. Regardless of whether your horse is resident with us on a permanent basis, or boarding for just a short period of time, you will be updated regularly and owners are always welcome to visit.
  • Spelling: The importance of rest and recuperation for our equine athletes cannot be undervalued in the demanding environment of today’s racing industry, so it is no surprise that our spelling facilities continue to go from strength to strength. As with all of our boarding facilities, we tailor our services to meet your needs. Our spelling yard can accommodate every individual’s requirements, providing cage, nursery or small paddock turnout, as well as walker and lunge ring exercise if needed.
  • Consignment: The National Stud offers a leading thoroughbred sales consignment service, using decades of experience and a team of professionals committed to delivering results. Our consignment services are available throughout all major sales in the United Kingdom. Each year our sales consignment has featured consistently in the Top Consignor of Yearlings and Breeding Stock in the UK sales circuit. Throughout the process our team maintains the highest level of horsemanship and presentation as well as consistent one-to-one communication with our clients as we strive to obtain the best possible results for you and your horse.
