Features

  • The Ghosts & Gore Tour: A gentle stroll through the Old Town, with guide Alexander Clapperton (deceased) joined by a number of quirky local phantoms who'll tell you hair-raising tales of plague, punishment and persecution.
  • The Greyfriars Cemetery Tour: A walking tour visiting graves of some lesser-known characters including the lecturer who taught Charles Darwin, an actor buried in full theatrical costume, and a First World War ace pilot. We might, in passing, also point out the graves with links to a certain boy wizard.
  • The William Burke Museum: In an ornate black box on the counter of our shop in Edinburgh's West Bow rests a fascinating gory relic from the capital's grim past. This original artefact is a small calling-card case made out of the skin of the notorious "bodysnatcher" William Burke.
  • Enter our Lair: Number 84 West Bow, down near the bottom of the not-so-sunny side of picturesque Victoria Street in Edinburgh's Old Town, is an unassuming address amongst the majesty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact, you might stroll past its jet-black façade and not give it a second glance... people do, on occasion, although often this may have something to do with them making hurrieldy towards (or retreating biliously from) the notorious Grassmarket and Cowgate, with their plethora of purgatorious pubs.

Facilities

Parking: There is an NCP car park on Castle Terrace, about 10 minutes' walk from both meeting-points.
