  • Drive a steam train: Drive a steam train at the Severn Valley Railway! Join the driver and fireman on the footplate of one our historic steam locomotives and take control. Our experienced volunteers will welcome you on board and ‘show you the ropes’, before letting you experience the wonders of driving a steam locomotive along the Severn Valley Railway. Taking place throughout the year, you can experience the challenge of driving and firing a steam locomotive hauling a heavy train of carriages in which your 10 guests can travel free of charge. Running over the whole length of the line, you will steam through Bewdley Tunnel, glide across Victoria Bridge and storm up Eardington Bank, so make sure you keep the pressure up!
  • Drive a diesel train: There is nothing quite like the sight and sound of a diesel locomotive in full cry! Choose your locomotive and experience the power and surge of adrenaline as you take the controls on our full day experience, including a tour of Kidderminster Diesel Depot! Taking place throughout the year, you can experience the challenge of driving a diesel electric or diesel hydraulic locomotive hauling a heavy train of carriages in which your 10 guests can travel free of charge. Running over the whole length of the line, you will power through Bewdley Tunnel, glide across Victoria Bridge and storm up Eardington Bank.
  • Dining: Ideal for a romantic date, a celebration with friends and family or a trip for foodies looking for a unique setting. We have a fantastic selection of on-train dining experiences for you to choose from. Experience the romance of heritage rail dining with between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, travelling through the spectacular Severn Valley. Seated in beautifully restored carriages, sit back, relax and enjoy a first class dining experience with menus handcrafted by our catering partners as you get a true taste of the counties you travel through.
  • Engine House: You can peek through the windows of King George VI’s royal carriage, and guided tours are offered whenever possible. Then there’s the Travelling Post Office where children can show off their sorting skills, and a host of exhibits that bring to life the history of Britain’s railways and the Severn Valley Railway in particular. There’s an extensive outdoor play area for children, a café and gift shop, and we often put on special events such as craft sessions and activities during school holidays.

  • Parking: Parking at our main car parks at Kidderminster Town Station DY10 1QX, Bewdley Station DY12 1DP and Bridgnorth Station WV16 5DP is £4 per day. 
  • Food & Drinks: On train operating days, find a table and pull up a chair at either the Valley Suite at Kidderminster Station, our GWR-style Refreshment Room at Bridgnorth, our Café at The Engine House, Highley with its fantastic views of the Severn Valley. You can even enjoy Sunday Lunch in the Valley Suite.

Kidderminster
By train: Kidderminster mainline station is situated right next to the SVR’s Kidderminster Town station. West Midlands Railway operates trains from Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon through Birmingham (Moor Street and Snow Hill stations) and Smethwick Galton Bridge to Worcester via Kidderminster. Chiltern Railways operate from London Marylebone to Birmingham (Moor Street and Snow Hill stations) via High Wycombe, Banbury and Leamington Spa. From Birmingham, an easy connection is available onto West Midlands Railway trains to Kidderminster. 

Bewdley
By bus: Diamond Buses operate a number of services to Bewdley. By road: There’s parking at Bewdley station for up to 50 vehicles – £4 charge applies. Postcode: DY12 1DP

Arley
By bus: Some journeys of the 297 operated by Arriva Midlands North between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster call at Arley village, over the river bridge from the station. No service Sundays. By road: Please note there is no on-site parking at Arley station.

Highley
By bus: the Diamond Buses 125 service from Stourbridge, Kidderminster and Bewdley to Bridgnorth calls at Highley village, then there’s a 20-minute walk to Highley station. By road: There is no public parking at The Engine House. Postcode: WV16 6NP.

Hampton Loade
By road: There is no public parking. Postcode: WV16 6BN.

Bridgnorth
By bus: Arriva Midlands North service 8 from Telford, 9 from Wolverhampton and 436 from Shrewsbury all serve Bridgnorth. By road: The SVR has a large car park at WV16 5DP with more than 200 spaces available at £4 per day. Disabled parking at Bridgnorth station is available by following postcode WV16 4AX.
