Description

The Scottish Seabird Centre is a marine conservation and education charity located in the beautiful coastal town of North Berwick. It features an award-winning visitor centre and offers exciting ways to explore Scotland’s amazing marine life. Visitors can dive into interactive exhibits and enjoy relaxing views from the seaside café.

Families can discover over 6,500 species in Scotland’s seas, explore the Discovery Experience, and visit local seabird islands like Bass Rock and Fidra. The centre offers seasonal boat trips, a gift shop, and a peaceful space to enjoy food and learn about marine habitats. There’s also baby-changing and accessible facilities, plus seminar and venue hire options.

Admission is £13.50 for adults, £9 for children (3–15), and free for under 3s. A family ticket (2 adults & 2 children) is £38.50.

Wildlife: Scotland's marine environment is exceptional and diverse. Over 18,000km of coastline, more than 900 islands, and around 61% of the UK's seas support more than 6,500 species of animals and plants. Scotland is internationally important for seabirds, with more than 5 million breeding here each year.
Marine and Coastal Habitats: The marine environment is made up of a patchwork of habitats; areas that are characterised by a combination of physical and biological features. Each habitat contains a different community of species and provides us with a variety of services.
Local Islands: Just off the coast of North Berwick, a chain of four seabird islands span the skyline and are home to some spectacular wildlife. The islands Fidra, Lamb, Craigleith and the Bass Rock are familiar landmarks to regular visitors. Many of these visitors are seabirds, several species of which return year upon year to breed, feed and raise their young.
Wildlife Boat Trips: They offer a fantastic range of boat trips around the islands in the Firth of Forth, including the incredible Bass Rock gannet colony. Trips run from late March to early October. Look out for different seabirds and marine wildlife throughout the spring and summer season.

Food & Drinks: The spacious café is the perfect spot to relax, enjoy some locally sourced food and drink and soak up the amazing coastal views towards the iconic Bass Rock.
Parking: Up to 1 hour: £3.00; Up to 2 hours: £5.00; Up to 3 hours: £7.00; full day (9am to 6pm): £8.00 and FREE from October to February.
Venue Hire: A unique venue in a spectacular coastal setting that gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The venue is ideal for smaller seminars, meetings, evening events or private parties. They welcome enquiries for hire of our Centre's facilities.
Baby changing: Baby changing facilities available in the Accessible toilet. They are breastfeeding friendly and will help with bottle warming.

The Scottish Seabird Centre is delighted to welcome groups of 10 - 50 people and can provide catering and special guided tours of the award-winning Discovery Experience. Please note all group visits must be booked in advance.
The group rate (minimum of 10 people) is £12.15 per adult, £8.10 per child and concessions are £10.13. Concessions: Age 60+, disabled with ID (carers free), student with ID, unemployed and YoungScot cardholders.
There is a coach dropping-off point a few yards from the Centre and off-site parking for coaches.

By Bus: Transport around East Lothian is provided by East Coast Buses, Eve Coaches and Prentice Coaches,
By Car: Only 25 miles/40kms from the centre of Edinburgh, the Scottish Seabird Centre and North Berwick are signposted from the A1. Get directions from your location here. Follow the brown tourist signs to the Seabird Centre’s pay-and-display car park (or use EH39 4HN if you need a postcode for the SatNav to find the carpark), we are 5 minutes walk from here. Just head for the sea!
By Train: Fast, 35 minute journey from Edinburgh Waverley. The Scottish Seabird Centre is a 15 minute walk from North Berwick train station: this walk is downhill to the Centre and uphill back to the station.
