Features

Rouken Glen Park is a 143 acre historic park located next to Thornliebank, Giffnock and Newton Mearns, and around 10 km (6 miles) to the south of Glasgow.

  • Walled garden: Over the past number of years, the Walled Garden in Rouken Glen has suffered due to the spreading of Mare's Tail, an invasive perennial weed. This weed is not harmful to humans or animals, but has become a problem in the Walled Garden, causing significant issues.
  • Skate park: The skate park provides an opportunity for skateboarding, BMX and inline skating. This is a popular area for young people to meet and decorate the skate park to suit their tastes. Due to the nature of the activities this area isn't suitable for very young children and parent supervision is advised.
  • Tennis courts: To access these courts you need to pre-book online at clubspark.lta.org.uk/RoukenGlenPark. The tennis courts are open 24/7. Organised tennis coaching isn't allowed on the tennis courts.
  • Table tennis: Table tennis is open 24/7. Bats and balls are free to hire. You can get these from the Rangers in the Pavilion Visitor Centre.
  • Basketball court: The park has a small basketball court next to the skate park.
  • Outdoor gym: An 11 piece outdoor gym is available for public use in the oval circuit in the recreation area.
  • Bouncy castles: We've a bouncy castle by the play park towards Lodge House, which operates from early March to mid October on weekends, public holidays and school holidays including in-service days between 11.30am and 4.30pm (weather permitting).
  • Walking routes: Rouken Glen Park is a great place to visit for a walk. The main paths allow visitors to explore the waterfall, boating pond and walled garden. Beyond the main paths, the Glen Walks are well worth discovering.
  • Wildlife: Rouken Glen Park is home to a host of mammal species. From tiny shrews, voles, wood mice and 5 bat species to the largest of our denizens, the Roe Deer. The park is also home to non native species like the grey squirrel which were introduced by wealthy landowners to add interest to their country estates.
  • Plants and trees: During the summer months at the top of the park, next to the railway line, wild Orchids grow. The early Purple Orchid (Orchis mascula), is the first of our Orchids to bloom from April to June.  The rarer Greater Butterfly Orchid (Platanthera clorantha) is a beautiful delicate white colour. It's night scented attracting nocturnal insects to pollinate its flowers.
