Porthcurno Beach, Penzance, Cornwall
1.63 miles
Porthgwarra Beach is a secluded and relatively unknown Cornish Cove located just under 3 miles southeast of Lands End.
The beach here comprises of a narrow strip of sand between boulders and granite cliffs. The beach sits at the bottom of a steep slipway - a throwback to when Porthgwarra was a busy fishing village. Now only one boat regularly works crab pots from here.
One of Porthgwarra's most interesting features is the cave running through part of the cliff; there is a rope to hang on to as it's treacherously slippery.
Swimming is relatively safe within the confines of the Cove but with no lifeguards and strong currents further out to sea caution is advised.
No lifeguard cover
Toilets, telephone box (red!!) and old fashioned seaside shop selling assorted souveneirs and snacks.
Ample car parking in field just by the village. Not too expensive
