Great Glasshouse: This spectacular dome is the largest single-span great glasshouse in the world. Designed by Foster and Partners, the Great Glasshouse is poised on the Welsh landscape like a giant raindrop. It houses some of the most endangered plants on the planet which come from six areas of the world: California, Australia, the Canary Islands, Chile, South Africa, the Mediterranean Basin. Each of these geographical areas has regions that enjoy a Mediterranean climate. Hot dry summers, cool moist winters, dazzling sunlight, strong breezes and the occasional ground-clearing fire, create perfect conditions for many plants to thrive on the scrubby, rock-strewn landscapes.
Waun Las National Nature Reserve: At the National Botanic Garden of Wales, we’re proud to have our very own nature reserve on site: Waun Las National Nature Reserve, 400 acres of beautiful countryside managed as an organic farm to encourage biodiversity. Covering over 70% of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Waun Las contains a wide range of valuable habitats that include marshy grassland, wet woodland and lowland meadows: priorities for conservation in the UK and the rest of Europe.

Facilities

Parking: Visitors only have to pay when they enter the Botanic Garden. If you just want to visit our Garden Centre parking is also free.
Food & Drinks: Inside the Garden, our Caffi Botanica, located in our Stable Block, is a great place to eat a lovely hot meal or snacks and sandwiches. Here, we aim to use foods that are as organic and as local as possible, including produce grown in the Garden itself.
Picnic: We’ve got some beautiful picnic spots across the Botanic Garden and the adjoining Waun Las National Nature Reserve. We also have some outdoor eating tables near our Caffi Botanica which are great if you want to supplement your picnic with a special treat or something you might have forgotten.

By Car: The Garden is situated 10 minutes from the M4 and 2 minutes from the A48 in Carmarthenshire, mid-way between Cross Hands and Carmarthen.
By Bus: The 279 bus leaves Carmarthen bus station at 11:05am, picks up at Carmarthen train station at 11:08, reaching the Garden at 11:30. The TrawsCymru Service T1S provides one journey per day from Swansea to the Garden. The bus leaves Swansea City Bus Station at 12noon, reaching the Garden at 12.42pm.
By Train: The Garden is about 8 miles from Carmarthen train station.
