What to see

Fishing
Harrold-Odell Country Park offers fishermen access to two great lakes and a stretch of the River Great Ouse. The largest of the lakes is Grebe Lake, which is 35 acres and contains some stunning fish. Catches include up to 35lb carp, 28lb pike and perch up to 4lb. We have had good catches of bream and tench, although the latter don't get caught too often.

Habitats
The Country Park has been established on the site of a former gravel quarry. The quarry was worked from after the Second World War until 1980. Since gravel extraction stopped the Park has been carefully managed, initially by Bedfordshire County Council and more recently by Bedford Borough Council.

Wildlife
Over 160 species of birds have been recorded here. These range from the common Canada and Greylag geese to rarer visitors such as Bittern and Little Egret. Watch the wildfowl on Grebe Lake from the hide. By the river, look out for Terns and Kingfishers. The Park, and its lakes provide a home for migrating birds. In previous years these have included Goosander, White-fronted Geese and Fieldfare.

Play Areas
There are two play areas in the park. The one illustrated on the right is located outside the cafe and is suitable for children aged 2 - 6 years old. This provides a multi-play unit with two slides, a ramp, ladders and mini climbing walls. In the same enclosure children can use parallel bars, a fibreglass climbing boulder and a large chestnut log.

Schools And Groups
The Park offers an inspirational environment for both curriculum-based and informal visit and is extensively used by local Primary Schools for geography, art and science topics.
