Welcome to the Harlow Museum & Walled Gardens is a historic and significant place with over 1000 years of captured history. We are an accessible and engaging heritage and cultural resource that celebrates the people, communities and places of Harlow, ensuring a meaningful and enjoyable experience for all.

Our gallery spaces share and highlight the history of the town from the Iron Age to the present day. The site is also home to three historical gardens set across two acres of lush green space with a seating area, perfect for picnics. At Harlow Museum & Walled Gardens there is something new to discover around every corne.

  • The Walled Gardens: Explore the Unusual Fruit Garden, the 17th Century Garden and Peace Garden set across two acres of lush green space with beautiful landscaping, sculptures and outdoor seating.
  • Parish Gallery: Explore the five parishes which originally made up the land where Harlow Town now stands, including Potter Street, Latton, Netteswell, Little and Great Parndon.

  • Library and Research: Study our archives, which range from newspaper records, 1950 to 2010s, to maps, drawings, oral histories, local photographs and parish records.

  • Parking: We have a free car park with plenty of spaces. Bicycles can be stored on cycle racks within the museum’s courtyard.
  • Food & Drinks: We offer a small refreshments stall with tea, coffee, water, squash, and snacks. You are also welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the garden.
  • Toilets: There are toilets, including an accessible toilet with baby changing facilities.
  • Dogs: Dogs are welcome in the gardens on leads.
