Description

Grosvenor Park Miniature Railway is a charming, family-friendly attraction located within Grosvenor Park in the heart of Chester. It has been delighting visitors since 1996, offering a gentle miniature train ride through one of the city’s most popular green spaces. The railway is especially popular with families and young children looking for a relaxed outdoor activity.

The attraction features a ¼-mile miniature railway circuit running in a large loop around an ornamental lake. The train journey passes over a long bridge, past the children’s playground, alongside the duck pond, through trees and shrubs, across two level crossings, and back into Grosvenor Park station, with resident grey squirrels often spotted along the route. The railway uses miniature locomotives, including a Greatrex-built Union Pacific, and operates on selected days throughout the year.

Features

  • The Grosvenor Park Miniature Railway first opened in 1996, originally designed for just one season to commemorate the centenary of the Duke of Westminster's railway at nearby Eaton Hall. The brainchild of miniature railway author Roger Greatrex, the current owner Stephen Hardin took over in 2000, upgrading the line and its motive power.
  • The line runs for ¼ mile in a large circle round an ornamental lake, enroute travelling over a bridge and passing over two level crossings. The main motive power is a Greatrex built Union Pacific with the steam outline locomotive being used on a new coin in slot line adjacent to the station.
  • The quarter mile circuit glides through the park over the long bridge, past the playground on the left, the duck pond to the right meandering through trees and shrubs and into the back straight, next up is the level crossing then after a short bend you slowly enter the Grosvenor Park station. Watch out for the resident grey squirrels who jump fearlessly across the tracks.
