Welcome to the Cumbrias Museum of Military Life, Our museum offers an immersive journey through over 300 years of military history. Showcasing the rich heritage of the Border Regiment and its successors, our museum features a vast collection of uniforms, medals, weapons, and personal stories. 

As well as interactive exhibits and detailed displays highlighting the experiences of soldiers and their families, from the 18th century to modern day conflicts. A good family friendly display and interpretation with the story of the regiment's histories told by the objects, medals and Audio Visual displays. Located within the outward of the walls of Carlisle Castle the museum in the building called Alma can also cater for small groups and parties in a manner of ways.

  • Our Collections: Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life tells the story of Cumbria’s County Infantry Regiment and its soldiers past and present. The intertwined history of 300 years of British Infantry Regiments is detailed through a great variety of items including uniforms, medals, weapons and silver from 1702 to the present day.

  • At the front desk, we have a gallery trail available to occupy the younger ones while you explore our exhibitions. Don’t forget to let a member of staff know that you’ve completed it before you leave to receive a special reward.
  • In the galleries, you’ll find a variety of interesting displays, interactives and hands-on experiences… Including a morse code machine!
  • Every Wednesday during the holidays, we host FREE drop-in craft workshops which are included in the regular admission price. You can view our upcoming events here.
