Features

  • Originally laid out in the 1920s by the grandparents of the current owner, the garden has been developed gradually by subsequent generations to its present state, where in 2019 it was voted as ‘The Nation’s Favourite Garden’ in a poll conducted by the English Garden magazine in conjunction with the National Garden Scheme. Since 1991 it has been tended by Susie Pasley-Tyler, recently joined by her younger daughter, Imogen.
  • This beautiful garden at Coton Manor occupies a hillside position extending down from the 17th century manor house constructed of mellow Northamptonshire stone. The 10 acre garden has luxuriant borders that will delight the plant enthusiast while everyone will enjoy the garden’s charm and special atmosphere, with colour and interest throughout the seasons. Beyond the garden is a magical five acre bluebell wood and a wildflower meadow.
  • Coton Manor Garden School: The Garden School began in 1995 and was revived in 2025, after a Covid hiatus, into a world with very different gardening concerns. Now, how to garden in a changed climate of saturated winters and summer droughts is uppermost in our minds. The school already has an excellent reputation for providing a thorough education in hands-on gardening, from propagation to border design, but we will increasingly offer a variety of events including creative workshops, and talks with a more philosophical component: to contemplate what it is that makes a garden, and why they’re so important, with a particular focus on how we can work to nourish, not deplete, the soil upon which we all depend.

Facilities

  • Parking: There are two car parks available. There are steps descending from the main car park to the road opposite the entrance to the gardens. Elderly and disabled visitors should follow signs for accessible parking.
  • Food & Drinks: The Café is open during garden opening times and serves lunches, including homemade soups, sandwiches and quiches, until 2.30pm. A variety of hot and cold drinks, cakes, scones and snacks are served from 12pm-5pm.
  • Toilets: Accessible toilets are located in the corner of the stableyard.
