Castle Rising Castle, One of the largest, best preserved and most lavishly decorated keeps in England, surrounded by 20 acres of mighty earthworks. Building of the castle was begun in 1138 by the Norman lord William d'Albini for his new wife, the widow of Henry I. In the 14th century it became the luxurious residence of Queen Isabella, widow (and alleged murderess) of Edward II.

Don’t miss climbing up the gatehouse steps to view the vast earthworks, admiring the keep’s stunning decoration, exploring the Great Hall and its splendid waiting room, visiting Queen Isabella’s luxurious apartments, and seeing the remains of the early Norman Church within the inner bailey.

Toilets: There are toilets facilities (including accessible toilets and baby changing facilities) in the car park open evey day from April until October while the castle is open, and open at weekends only in the from November to March while the castle is open.
