What to see

  • Enter a grand Victorian home: Visit Brodsworth Hall and Gardens and spend the day appreciating the grandeur of Victorian living. The Hall was built in the 1860s and the grand ground floor rooms still recall the house’s Victorian heyday, with glittering chandeliers and marble statues. But as you continue to explore, the picture changes. The last owner, the indomitable Sylvia Grant-Dalton, fought a losing battle against subsidence and leaking roofs, making do and mending with dwindling funds and ever-fewer servants.
  • See the glorious gardens: Over the past 30 years, we’ve been restoring Brodsworth’s extensive gardens with brilliant bedding, formal topiary, a fern-filled dell and quirky garden buildings. Don’t miss the charming 1864 ‘privy’ toilet and the restored Target Range, which is a mosaic of colourful beds and intricate paving, complete with a Classical-style ‘Eyecatcher’ and a picturesque summerhouse.
  • Have some family fun: Kids will love exploring the gardens and the outdoor play area, and the hall’s history is brought to life by changing exhibitions and friendly volunteer room stewards. Let little ones run wild in the gardens: wander over and under the bridges of the fern dell; sniff your way through the wild rose dell; and be sure to have a peek at the historic outdoor loo! The playground at Brodsworth is based on the history of the family who lived here. There's a sailing boat for mini sea-captains, climbing frames and slides to explore.
  • Discover magical creatures: Looking for an adventure with your little ones? Uncover English folklore with our Folktale Creature Trails, where children can discover magical creatures from English myths and legends. Meet six unique creatures as you explore the site, and earn a special certificate marking your achievement when you complete the trail. There are some captivating audio stories to enjoy when you get home too.
