Bourn Pottery in Cambridge is a welcoming studio where children and adults can enjoy the art of pottery. It’s the perfect place for beginners to try clay for the first time or for improvers to develop their skills further. With expert guidance and a variety of creative sessions, it offers a relaxing and hands-on experience for all.

Activities include 2-hour taster sessions (£50pp) for throwing, hand-building, and glazing, 1:1 throwing lessons(£60/hour), and a 6-week pottery course (£185pp) for beginners and improvers.

Visitors can also spend a whole day with Clay for a Day (£200pp) or join Ceramic Masterclasses (£200pp) led by resident artist Sara Wilkinson or guest ceramic experts. Birthday parties are available as unique clay experiences. At the studio, parties cost £25 per person (minimum 6, maximum 8), including tuition, clay, glazes, and kiln firing. Parties can also be hosted at your home or venue (up to 25 guests) with a £50 travel fee.

  • Taster session: Ever fancied having a go at pottery?  Bourn Pottery is offering a 2-hour introductory taster session where you will learn to throw a pot on the wheel and have a go at hand-building and glazing a plate, bowl or tile (or similar).
  • Throwing Lessons: Perhaps you have always wanted to learn to throw on the potters wheel, or you fancy really get to grips with throwing and pot making? Maybe you have done some throwing in the past and want to revisit your skills, or perhaps you have your own wheel but are struggling with a particular apsect of throwing.
  • Pottery Course: This 6-week course is ideal for people who are new to pottery and want an introduction to everything that clay has to offer. It is also suitable for improvers and those who want to continue on their pottery journey.
  • Clay for a Day: Do you fancy spending a day relaxing, having fun, learning the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel and creating wonderful things from clay? Ever wanted to have a go on the potters wheel and throw some pots? Perhaps you have done some clay work before and would relish the opportunity to spend a whole day developing your skills or making that special piece?
  • Ceramic Masterclasses: Bourn Pottery is pleased to offer an occasional series of Ceramic Masterclasses taught either by Sara Wilkinson, or in conjunction with a variety of other ceramic experts. These classes are an opportunity to work with an artist who specialises in a particular area of ceramics and to really learn from the master!

Looking for a birthday party with a difference? A clay party is a memorable way to celebrate a birthday or special event and to create a lasting work of art from clay!

  • Standard 1-hour clay party at Bourn Pottery Studio: The cost is £25 per person (minimum of 6, max of 8) and parties last around an hour including tuition, equipment, clay, glazes and of course, firing in the kiln. The party guests will make their clay art (animal tiles or similar) on the day and glaze it with the colours of their choice. I will then fire the tiles in the kiln, and they will be ready for collection in around 2 weeks.
  • Standard 1-hour clay party at your home or venue of your choice: The cost is £25.00 per person (minimum of 6, max of 25) plus £50 travel and fuel allowance. Parties last around an hour including tuition, equipment, clay, glazes and of course, firing in the kiln. The party guests will make their clay art (animal tiles or similar) on the day and glaze it with the colours of their choice. I will then fire the tiles in the kiln, and they will be ready for collection in around 2 weeks.
