Barbarafield Riding School, established by Christine Berwick in 1956 with family ponies Rosie, Petronella, Lindora, and Diamond, is located near Cupar in North East Fife, just 15 minutes from St Andrews. Open Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, the school offers everything from 20-minute introductory rides to three-hour experienced hacks, as well as children’s half-day and full-day pony experiences during school holidays and lessons during term time. Popular hacks traverse 300 acres of farmland, including local tracks and the newly opened Pilgrimes Way, with rides split into smaller groups so experienced riders can canter while beginners enjoy a walk or trot. Fun days and pony club games are available for children, and two- or three-hour scenic hacks of up to 20 km are offered for confident riders. Instruction is provided by qualified instructors, with shorter introductory sessions for younger riders progressing to one-hour hacks once trotting is mastered. All rides take place in all weather except ice, hurricane-force winds, and lightning, so dressing appropriately is advised.

Popular Hacks: The hacks are very popular, as all experiences can be catered for on the routes. The rides go through 300 acres of farmland owned by the Berwick family, using the local tracks and the newly opened Pilgrimes Way. Rides can be split into smaller groups in the fields, allowing experienced riders to enjoy a canter while novices or beginners can take a shortcut for a walk and trot to catch up.
Fun Activities: Fun days are held for children during school holidays (half-day and full-day sessions), as well as fun lessons that include pony club games. Two-hour and three-hour hacks are available on request. The three-hour trek covers 20 km of land. These fast-paced, scenic rides take riders off the farm; participants must be confident in walk, trot, and canter.
